Pittsburgh Fun Facts

At KEYGroup we are proud to recognize local people or organizations that exemplify the attributes of Vibrant Entrepreneurial Organizations.

The “Steel Heart Award” for July 2007 goes to…

Bayer Corporation for encouraging their employees to dream, imagine, speculate and innovate. The result is a corporate culture within Bayer that nurtures creativity and fosters innovation.

In too many organizations new ideas are met with skepticism or fear of failure.  Yet creativity is essential to a corporation’s ability to change and grow in a competitive climate. Far from stifling creativity, a vibrant entrepreneurial organization willingly shares the “big picture” that people need to take personal risks and hold themselves accountable. By creating an atmosphere that recognizes and cultivates new ideas, VEOs such as Bayer give every employee a chance to contribute to their organizations’ growth and long-term success.

At Bayer the process of innovation starts with a single idea. Any employee who wishes to can submit a new idea for a product or a service to Bayer’s “Triple-I” program, which stands for “Inspiration, Ideas and Innovation.” This worldwide initiative encourages employees at every level to think in entrepreneurial terms to help the company grow. Contributing employees complete a preliminary questionnaire that helps them outline the idea and pinpoint potential payoffs.

The employee’s idea is reviewed by Bayer’s team of “Innovation Managers.” This team is composed of personnel who are strictly dedicated to evaluating the business ramifications of a new idea and recommending it to the appropriate subgroup for further development. In some cases, the employee is invited to present an informal business case to the Triple-i Steering

Clearly, Pittsburgh-based Bayer Corporation recognizes the value of employee innovation in building a strong corporate culture. Not only is its “Triple-I” program a conduit for invention, it is a morale-building strategy that helps employees to feel valued and respected, which is the true strength of a vibrant entrepreneurial organization.

So, our congratulations to Bayer Corporation for building a culture of innovation that encourages employees to take risks with new ideas, which contribute to Bayer’s growth and profitability.
